There’s no denying society’s love for true crime content. These days, it feels like the moment something grizzly yet interesting happens, there are instant calls to make the scenario into a true crime drama — usually created by Ryan Murphy. That’s exactly what happened when news spread that 27-year-old American man Luigi Mangione had allegedly murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
After the online obsession with Mangione took off, true crime fans began casting hypothetical crime dramas about the allegedly healthcare-motivated slaying. Who did they cast as Mangione? None other than Dave Franco, who bears a striking resemblance to the criminal.
Now, Franco himself has weighed in on whether he would take the role if it ever came up.
Franco was asked about the possibility of playing Mangione in an upcoming project on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday.
“Oh, how do I answer this?” he said with a laugh.
“No one has approached me about it yet, I’ll say that.
“This is something that more people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened. Let’s just say, I’m open if it’s the right people and let’s leave it at that.”

There’s no denying the physical similarities between the two. From their prominent eyebrows to their bone structure, they’ve got the same essence. If anyone is going to do it, it’s got to be him.
Mangione has been indicted on a federal murder charge for Thompson’s death. He has pleaded not guilty and currently remains in federal custody in Brooklyn until his next court appearance, which is scheduled for December 5. The appearance will determine whether the death penalty will be considered by the court.
The trial is expected to begin in 2026.
