Dave Cormack reveals Derek McInnes would knock back the Scotland job to stay at Aberdeen

Dave Cormack has revealed Derek McInnes told him he is staying at Aberdeen even if the SFA approach him about becoming the next Scotland boss.

McInnes is on the governing body’s shortlist along with managers such as Steve Clarke as they search for Alex McLeish’s successor.

But Dons vice-chairman Cormack has been told by the 47-year-old he is not yet ready to leave Pittodrie, although leading his country is an ambition for one time in the future.

The Aberdeen director told the BBC: "Derek is very attracted to being Scotland manager at some stage but not just now.

"That's a big plus for us as a club."

McInnes has twice boosted the Aberdeen board by knocking back offers. He rejected the chance to take over at Sunderland and then Rangers.

It was reported earlier today Kilmarnock believe the SFA will make an approach for Clarke, who has guided the Ayrshire side to the brink of a Europa League place.

It’s understood Hampden boss will make their move for their preferred candidate after the final round of league matches this weekend.
