Dave Cormack explains changed Aberdeen priority as he spies England and Germany momentum

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has admitted the priority is no longer about trying to finish the 2019-20 Premiership season.

The Dons chairman had been keen on finishing the campaign but after recent virtual meetings with top-flight clubs and Dundee United he accepts that now looks unlikely.

Cormack, however, wants his Scottish football to continue to be on the front foot and to get back playing as quickly as it can, even if that is next season.

Cormack said: “It is something we need to jump up on.

“The key priority isn’t necessarily to finish 19/20 which is looking more and more unlikely as the days go by.

“It is how we get back playing safely and as quickly as we can.

“If it is going to be behind closed doors what does that look like from a safety standpoint, the count and a commercial viewpoint with more games views on television.

“That is where the different groups are focused just now.”

Scottish Football Association and Scottish Professional Football League chiefs are due for talks with the Scottish Government on Tuesday.

Cormack thinks it would be bizarre if English clubs can get training and Scottish teams can’t especially as some of them are closer to our central belt than Aberdeen.

He stated: “I have just finished a call with the 12 Premiership clubs and Dundee United who have been promoted and had very good conversations with the issues that face us.

"We are following up on next week but the message was clear from what we need to do to get a plan together and work cohesively with the Scottish government to get this plan in place.  Things are moving in Germany and England.

"The interesting thing for us is that they are playing football or training in Carlisle, Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Sunderland which is closer to Glasgow than Aberdeen is.

“We all feel it is important to get moving and there is a meeting with the Scottish Government on Tuesday.”
