Dave Cormack begs Aberdeen Red Shed to self police after 'few thousand pounds' worth of stadium damage

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack has told fans they must "self-police" in a Pittodrie singing section after exuberant celebrations prompted a four-figure repair bill.

The "Red Shed" in the Merkland Road end, first trialled in 2019-20, has become a permanent fixture with its large flags and non-stop chanting creating one of the best home atmospheres in the country.

It was made permanent for the following campaign but Covid restrictions meant fans could not sample the atmosphere for themselves.

Now it's back for good – but at a hefty price after "thousands of pounds" worth of damage following the Dons' Europa Conference League victory over Breidablik.

And in a Twitter thread Cormack insisted the Aberdeen support must behave responsibly at matches in future, warning fans cameras will monitor unruly behaviour after one fan left the ground in an ambulance.

The post was accompanied by a picture of a broken seat being held aloft by a fan.

And it read: "Having being a Beachend Boy myself I’ve personally driven putting the Red Shed into place. It’s a brilliant atmosphere!

"But we need the Red Shedders to self police… a few thousand pounds of damage was done last Thursday… it can’t continue… don’t shoot the messenger here!

"7k cameras can zoom in & identify anything in the stadium.

"Yes some damage was exuberance… most certainly not all of it. A fan ended up in an ambulance.

"We want people to be safe. EVERY seat is checked for safety so if any seat you find is not safe tell a steward immediately."
