Daughter's touching 'you'll never walk alone' tribute in the sky at dad's funeral

A touching tribute in the form of a message carried by a plane has been paid to a popular Renfrew granddad who passed away due to cancer.

Frank O'Neill sadly lost his battle with the disease last weekend on May 30 after being diagnosed with cancer shortly after turning 70 in February.

His daughter Louise and her family were unable to come home from Texas to attend the funeral due to the coronavirus – so she surprised loved ones with the heartwarming message as they gathered to celebrate his life at St James’s Church in Renfrew.

The plane, carrying the message 'You'll Never Walk Alone Dad' in tribute to Celtic-daft Frank, circled over the town yesterday afternoon - much to the surprise and shock of Louise's family, including Frank's daughter Christina.

Speaking to Glasgow Live about the wonderful tribute, she said: "We never knew that Louise had arranged for it to happen. We were all standing waiting outside the church and then we were told by a friend of Louise's to look up.

"It was a really lovely gesture. It was her way of contributing and being a part of it. She was really close to my dad and was so upset about not being able to be there.

"It was her unique way of wanting to pay tribute to him. She's a big family person and she wanted to be involved.

"My dad was a big Celtic fan and he followed them all his life. He was a very funny, kind and humble person – and he will be sorely missed. It was so uplifting to see him memorialised in that way. I know he would have loved that.

"The funeral wasn't the send-off we hoped for because of the coronavirus but that tribute reminded us how much everyone loved him."

The plane followed the funeral party from the church to the crematorium in Paisley, allowing people all over the Renfrew and Paisley area to spot the wonderful tribute to Frank - a much-loved member of the Renfrew community - in the sky.
