Daughter of man whose body found in derelict Cork house appeals for killer to give himself up

The daughter of a man whose dismembered body was found in a derelict house in Cork city in late December has appealed to the killer to give himself up.

The body of Frankie Dunne, 64, was found at Castlegreine House in Boreenmanna Road on the southside of Cork city on December 28 by a neighbour out looking for a missing cat.

The body was found under a bush at the back of the house. The arms and legs were found in another part of the property. A murder investigation is underway.

Mr Dunne’s daughter, Catherine, has spoken to Virgin Media News about the immense shock and suffering caused to the family by the gruesome murder.

“It is hard to accept the death of a loved one especially when we did not get to say goodbye. My dad was taken so suddenly and so shockingly. The grief and pain is unbearable - I hope the person responsible is caught and justice is served for such an horrific crime.

As a family we are absolutely heartbroken - it is like a bad nightmare that never ends. Thank you (Cork public) for all the continuous love and support. I hope my dad is at peace now.”

In the aftermath of the murder the Dunne family set up a Go Fund Me page which has raised €5000 for the Cork Simon Community.

Mr Dunne was cared for by his loving family who had helped him as he fought his addiction to alcohol. He lived in accommodation on Boreenmanna Road provided for by Cork Simon. He resided with ten other persons in the facility run by the charity.

Frankie Dunne is survived by his children John, Catherine and Chloe, four grand children, five siblings and a large number of nieces and nephews. He also had a large circle of friends within the homeless community in Cork.

Close to a hundred witness statements have been taken and door to door enquiries are now concluded as gardai continue to probe the death. Forty gardai are involved in the investigation.

Meanwhile, gardai are liaising with Interpol in a bid to trace a potential witness in the case.

It is believed the man may have taken a pre planned flight from Belfast to Edinburgh and then on to Eastern Europe in the days following the murder of Mr Dunne.

The man, after a disagreement with his partner, had moved out of his home several weeks ago and had been squatting in Cork city.

It is thought the man may have been in the company of Mr Dunne.

Gardai are also understood to be investigating whether the man may be linked to the theft of €1,000 from a premises close to the murder site.

The results of the postmortem have not been released from operational reasons. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Bridewell Garda Station on 021 4943330, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
