Daughter of Cardinals legend gives J.J. Watt her blessing to wear father’s retired No. 99

J.J. Watt signed with the Arizona Cardinals, which means we’re going to see the former Houston Texans legend in a different uniform.

Except, as everyone noticed, he won’t have a chance to wear No. 99, which he wore at Wisconsin and with the Texans. That number was retired by the franchise in honor of Marshall Goldberg.

But what if the Cards would unretire it to give to their new star defensive end?

That was the question posed by TMZ to Goldberg’s daughter Ellen Goldberg Tullos, and her answer was: she would be totally fine with it.

“If J.J. Watt had the number 99 with him for a long time and it meant something to him, I think [my dad] would be delighted to let him use the number,” she said.

“He has my blessings,” she added, “and I’m sure my father would be more than delighted for him to carry it on.”

So there you have it. I don’t know if the Cardinals would want to unretire a number, but it seems like Goldberg’s family has given the green light.
