Dating experts predict a boom over May Bank Holidays

New research from women-first dating app Bumble shows that this May is due to be the most popular time of year to date, with more than half of UK singles lining up dates to take place in May.

This spring dating revival has been coined ‘Bank Holi-dating, as singles across the UK look to make use of the Bank Holidays to meet new people.

The data also revealed it’s dates before mates, as almost half (48%) admitted they would ditch a prior engagement with friends or family to go on a date.

There’s no judgement either, as 70% of singles see no problem with going on up to four dates a week as restrictions ease.

Two-thirds (66%) say they would arrange a date first, and worry about the location second.

Over a third (36%) of adults will be using the long weekends to squeeze in more in-person dates with 70% saying they would opt for Friday or Saturday night for a date.

Naomi Walkland, Bumble’s Head of UK and Ireland, said: “Last year, ahead of lockdown fully lifting in June, we saw people using the Bumble app more as they got ready to date again.

"This year, we think it will come a little sooner with people looking to make use of the two long weekends in May to meet new people.

"We anticipate that Bank Holi-dating will be the biggest dating trend, with people looking to take control of their dating lives this spring and make up for lost time ahead of summer.”
