Dates when all the Christmas lights will be switched on in Liverpool

As Christmas approaches, it's time to look forward to seeing Liverpool lit up with sparkling Christmas lights as we get into the spirit of the season.

The city's lights are set to be turned on in phases, with plenty of opportunities to enjoy a series of events and activities alongside the various switch ons. Tomorrow, Friday, November 11, will see Liverpool ONE unveil its brand-new neon tree during its Christmas launch night.

Taking place from 4pm, the event is set to entertain the whole family with a packed programme of activities, acts, glowing Christmas decorations, a never-before-seen neon Christmas tree and many other installations.

The retail and leisure destination will transform into a magical winter wonderland as it gets visitors into the festive spirit. The brand-new tree will be situated at the centre of the ski holiday-inspired Liverpool Alpine Village on Chavasse Park.

Liverpool City Council has confirmed that the rest of the city's lights will be switched on in phases, starting from November 14. The city will be fully lit up by November 17. Church Street's Christmas tree lights will be on from November 24.

On Monday, November 14, Liverpool city centre's Christmas lights will be switched on and the decorations unveiled. In addition, a Christmas countdown featuring Liverpool-based artists will begin on December 1.

Alongside the traditional Christmas Tree on Church Street, the walk through Christmas tree is back on Old Hall Street and there will be a Star Pixel tree in Williamson Square. Trees along Church Street, Lord Street, Old Hall Street and Derby Square will be decorated with baubles, whilst lighting will be installed along Church Alley, Richmond Street and the Cavern Quarter.

Lamp posts on Paradise Street, Whitechapel, Old Hall Street, Chapel Street, Tithebarn Street, Lord Street and Cook Street will be decorated with angels. Lighting will also illuminate Exchange Flags and The Strand.

William Brown Street buildings including the Walker Art Gallery and World Museum will also be decorated. A new ceiling light curtain has been installed at Church Alley, with colour changing lights in the eight trees along the street. In the Cavern Quarter, the refurbished arches will be reinstalled with LED lighting. The 'Elfie Selfie' is set to make a return to St Johns.

Jennina O'Neill, chair of the retail and leisure BID and centre manager at Metquarter, said: "Decorating the city centre isn't just about festive cheer, it's part of making the city centre welcoming for those coming to celebrate Christmas and take part in the routines and rituals that haven't been open to all during the past few years.

"The run up to Christmas makes up half of the annual trading for retail and hospitality sectors, so it is a critical time of the year for the local economy. At Liverpool BID, we recognise the importance of investing to make the city feel full of the seasonal spirit as we countdown to Christmas."
