Dates for when new Nottingham council homes will be built and ready to move in

Council house building in Nottingham has been hit by the coronavirus pandemic and lockdown over the last couple of months - but new homes are still on the way.

Nottingham City Homes is currently working on three new council house projects across the city and has released expected finishing dates.

The dates are subject to weather and the conditions of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic - but one site could be finished as soon as July.

Nick Murphy, chief executive at Nottingham City Homes, told Nottinghamshire Live: “During Covid-19 work has slowed on our new build sites but we are slowly going back on site, whist maintaining social distancing.

"Once this is over we can go back to building more of our affordable homes for Nottingham people.

“There is an increasing demand for council housing and by working with partners, like the council, we can create more well-designed, energy efficient and affordable homes for everyone.

"We build homes for families, single people, couples and we are proud to build high quality retirement places for older residents.”

Lockdown has begun to ease, with builders now being told they can go back to work, as long as they follow social distancing.

There are around 9,000 people on Nottingham City Council's social housing waiting list.

Here's where work to build new council homes is happening at the moment.

Tunstall Drive, Basford

Work started on site in March 2020 to build five two-bedroom homes and 12 one bedroom apartments.

NCH said the build has an estimated date end of January 2021.

The housing firm said all the homes will be built to high-energy efficiency standards and offer warm, secure and affordable modern homes that will go to people on the city council’s waiting list.

Construction is underway to build 20 family homes and is estimated to be completed by the end of July.

The development, in Ainsworth Drive, is being built at the former Clifton Miners' Welfare site.

The welfare club was demolished a number of years ago.

Knights Close, Top Valley

Work is progressing to build 20 family homes and a shop with the contractor on site with an estimated completion date of October 2020.

The plans submitted in 2017 showed homes would include 13 two-bed houses, five four-bed properties and two two-bed flats.

NCH and contractors Robert Woodhead Ltd joined ward councilors from Nottingham City Council to mark the start of construction with a ceremonial ground-breaking in May 2019

Future opportunities

Nottingham City Council has pledged to build or buy 1,000 new council or social homes for rent over the next four years - as part of its plans to develop 4,000 new homes by 2023.

These are the current sites it has earmarked with NCH for housing developments.

Eastglade, Bestwood

Planning approved March 2020 for 106 homes.

Beckhampton, Bestwood

Planning submitted April 2020 at site of former school playfield site with scheme for open space and 110 homes

Chingford, Bilborough
