Date when children's play centres and soft play areas can reopen

This week marks one of the largest phases of lockdown restrictions being lifted, with non-essential stores finally reopening across the country.

Shops such as Primark , Sports Direct , TK Maxx and more opened their doors again, with enormous queues forming as high streets across the country were overrun with shoppers.

Despite hundreds of businesses now being open, there are many still waiting for news on when they’ll be allowed to reopen.

From bars and restaurants to hair and beauty salons and barber shops, the Government has yet to give the green light to many in the hospitality industry.

These businesses have been told the earliest date they can reopen is July 4, providing there is scientific evidence which says it is safe to do so.

But what does this mean for children’s play centres and soft play areas? Looking at the Government's website these would fall under the next phase of the easing of lockdown.

The phases are laid out in the Government's "Covid-19 recovery strategy" document which says leisure facilities will reopen as part of the country’s stage 3.

When Prime Minister Boris Johnson laid out the plans in May, he said: “And step three - at the earliest by July - and subject to all these conditions and further scientific advice; if and only if the numbers support it, we will hope to re-open at least some of the hospitality industry and other public places, provided they are safe and enforce social distancing.”

When these businesses do reopen there will no doubt be a number of strict safety measures in place, although the Government is yet to provide details on what these measures will be.
