Date set for Nottingham's Doughnotts shop to reopen - and new merchandise is launched

It's the date doughnuts fans have been waiting for - the reopening of Nottingham's Doughnotts city centre shop.

The locally-owned company closed when lockdown was announced but since the beginning of May has been has been selling boxes of favourites such as Red Velvet, Cookie Monster and Snickers from its bakery at Queens Drive Industrial Estate through Deliveroo and a click and collect service.

But from June 24 the Nottingham shop in King Street will return to business.

For the safety of staff and customers there will be social distancing in place and takeout and delivery only.

Temporary opening hours will be Wednesday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm and every Tuesday the store will have an extra deep clean.

"We’ll be providing all team members with a mask as part of their uniform, protective screens will be fitted in all stores and new floor signs will be in place. We understand there may be queues but we’re hoping the measures we’ve put in place and advice provided by the government will ensure our customers follow the guidelines to keep our teams and customers safe," said a spokesperson.

The news comes as the company launched its first collection of branded merchandise with graphics by Nottingham graphic designer and illustrator Alex Black.

Mugs, T-shirts, stickers, tote bags and caps with doughnut images make-up the collection, with prices ranging from £5 for a sticker pack to £50 for a bundle of items.

The collection is available to pre-order online and will be dispatched next month. Find it at doughnotts.awesomedistro.com

Doughnotts opened its new flagship Nottingham shop in King Street - just around the corner from the original shop - last year.

Alongside quotes painted on the walls at the shop is the story behind the company which was born in 2015 out of a need for holiday money.
Megan Scadden and her partner Wade Smith made doughnuts in her mother's kitchen to sell to friends on Facebook. Six months later they had their own micro-bakery and began selling at food fairs and markets, and in October 2015 opened their first shop in Nottingham city centre.
