Date for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's unveiling as Man Utd boss revealed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be confirmed as Manchester United's permanent boss, with an announcement possibly as early as Friday.

United are keen to end the uncertainty around his position and allow the Norwegian to plan for next season.

Solskjaer has been a major success since taking over as caretaker boss in December after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

The Red Devils have won 14 games with two draws and just three defeats in all competitions since the former player was handed a shock return to Old Trafford.

Ed Woodward and fellow club bosses now appear to have been convinced he is the right man to lead them into next season and beyond as they aim to get his long-term future tied up.

Woodward previously stated they would not make any announcements until the end of the season regarding their next appointment.

Yet Solskjaer has done enough to speed up the process - despite a recent hiccup with a defeat to Arsenal and FA Cup exit against Wolves before the international break.

The highlight of Solskjaer's stint at Old Trafford so far has been their dramatic Champions League last-16 win against Paris Saint-Germain.

But the ex-Cardiff City boss has also led them back into top four contention in the Premier League as they look to secure a Champions League place for next season.

They are fifth in the table - just two points behind Arsenal - with a home game against Watford on Saturday as they look to get back on track after the international break.

They are also preparing to take on Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals, hosting the first leg on April 10 before heading to the Nou Camp on April 16.

It appears Solskjaer's future will be confirmed by that stage to allow the Red Devils to fully concentrate on a huge business end to the season.

He has officially been released from his contract with Molde in Norway and is free to put pen to paper to become United's next permanent manager.
