Date for Newcastle United's FA Cup third-round replay with Rochdale confirmed

Newcastle United will host Rochdale in their FA Cup third-round replay on January 14.

The prize for both sides is a fourth-round tie at home to League One promotion-chasers Oxford United. Kick-off at St James' Park will be at 7.45pm on Tuesday.

United must negotiate two home encounters with League One opposition if they are to reach the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time in the Mike Ashley era.

Steve Bruce has vowed to play full-strength sides in the competition, and received a welcome boost on Tuesday with six players returning to training.

United must first find a way past a Rochdale side who can count themselves unlucky not to have snatched the victory at Spotland.

The Magpies dominated the first half and led through Miguel Almiron, but the hosts grew into the contest and substitute Aaron Wilbraham grabbed the equaliser 11 minutes from time.

Martin Dubravka was forced to make a number of important saves as Bruce's side eventually held on for a replay.

If the Magpies prove too strong for Rochdale, they then face a re-run of the 2017 fourth-round tie which saw Rafa Benitez's side dumped out of the competition at the Kassam Stadium.

Tickets for the replay go on sale to season-ticket holders at 10am on Wednesday, and will then go on full general sale at 10am on Thursday.
