Date for new series of Love Island is announced

The new series of Love Island has had its start date announced.

Fans will be able to watch the new episodes of the reality TV show on ITV 2 and the ITV Hub from Monday, June 28.

The show will air live at 9pm on ITV2 and catch-up episodes will stream on the ITV Hub.

It's the seventh series of the show and it hasn't aired since 2019 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Earlier this month a new teaser featuring host Laura Whitmore and her husband Iain Stirling, who is narrator of the show, aired and you can see that here.

The promo, which aired before The Masked Dancer Final, showed Laura sound the alarm for the highly anticipated Love Island return, alongside Iain who exclaimed "This is not a drill!".

"I think they missed us," he adds as singletons swarm the streets in the promo, before confirming a return date of June 2021.

It comes after Laura was spotted in the unusual location of Barking in East London filming last month. You can read more on this here.

Rumoured contestants this year include Gordon Ramsay's daughter, Holly Ramsay, as well as a doctor, aerial dancer and a professional boxer. You can find out more about the rumoured line-up here.

The date was officially announced by Holly Willoughby on This Morning via a series of texts, mirroring the way contestants are informed on the show.
