Date confirmed for Newcastle United's FA Cup replay with Oxford United after TV decision

Newcastle United's FA Cup fourth-round replay at Oxford United will be televised on BBC One.

The Magpies will lock horns with their League One opponents at the Kassam Stadium on February 4 in front of the television cameras, with kick-off listed for 8.05pm.

The reward for the victors is a fifth-round tie at Championship leaders West Brom. The clash at the Hawthorns will be staged midweek in early March, and will be settled on the night by extra time and penalties if needed.

United have not reached the fifth round of the FA Cup since 2006, but were left frustrated by a goalless stalemate in front of a sold-out St James' Park on Saturday.

In order to reach the next round of the competition, the Magpies will have to avenge their defeat at the Kassam Stadium at the same stage of the competition three years ago.

Reflecting on the disappointing goalless draw, head coach Steve Bruce said: "“Frustrated, disappointed, upset.

“From the first minute to the last, we were never good enough in possession, the way we gave the ball away.

“Our whole demeanour wasn’t right and when that happens and you get off to an awful start, it encourages Oxford who, let’s be be fair, took part in the cup tie and made it difficult for us.

“But we made it really difficult for ourselves the way we surrendered possession, turned the ball over, and the amount of mistakes we made was ridiculous.

“We’re still in the hat, that’s what we have got to look forward to, but we’ll be better when we go to Oxford a week on Tuesday or whenever it is because basically I don’t think we could be as poor as we were today.”
