Date announced for the re-opening of the 'cheese grater' bridge near Bristol Temple Meads

A central pedestrian-and-cyclist-only commuter bridge which was severely damaged in September 2017 after a lorry attempted to drive over it will finally reopen this weekend, it had been announced.

The Meads Reach Bridge - known colloquially as the 'cheese grater' bridge - will reopen this Saturday, May 18 at 10am, after more than a year of delays and repair work.

In February it was announced that the bridge would reopen in April 2019, however works were ongoing throughout the month with no confirmation of when it would be back in use.

Earlier this week it was revealed by Avison Young Property Management Consultancy - who manage the bridge on behalf of Glass Wharf Management Company - that the bridge would be 'fully operational very soon'.

After more than a year-and-a-half of delays as an insurance claim dragged on and the specialist components of the distinctive bridge had to be painstakingly reconstructed, it has been announced that commuters and visitors will once again be able to use the route.
