Newcastle fans are set to return to St James' Park for the Manchester City match under a Premier League plan to preserve integrity of the league while also allowing supporters back into grounds.
The Times reports that the May 11/12 set of games will be moved to the May 18/19 as a solution which can pacify every club in the division while also allowing fans back.
And that would mean 10,000 fans back inside St James' Park for the game against the Citizens.
The Government's 'road map' to recovery post-coronavirus will allow fans to return after May 17 - but that raised a number of problems. The Premier League were worried about the sporting integrity of the league with only the final set of games falling after that date.
They briefly considered moving the penultimate round of games to midweek but that was a non-starter with broadcasters not keen on a blank weekend and also the complication of the FA Cup final being played that weekend too.
So the alternative now being considered is moving a set of midweek games that was due to be played May 11/12 to a week later.
All of this is dependent on COVID rates staying low with Boris Johnson saying on Monday the route out of lockdown would be dependent on "data not dates".
Premier League clubs will vote on the principle of fans returning later in the season.
Newcastle made detailed plans for the return of fans in December in the hope the region would move out of Tier 4 but ultimately it didn't happen.
