Data shows positive Covid-19 cases almost twice as bad as we thought in Nottinghamshire

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire has almost doubled in 48 hours since, according to Public Health England data.

It comes after results from drive-through test centres and home swabs were made public.

Figures released on Thursday, July 2 show that the number of positive tests increased significantly in the county compared to data from Tuesday, June 30 - two days before.

The data, accurate to 5pm on July 1, show that there have been 1,160 cases of Covid-19 in Nottingham and a further 2,927 cases in Nottinghamshire, since the start of March.

However, the same daily figures released by Public Health England on Tuesday, June 30, showed there had been 620 cases in Nottingham and a further 1,490 cases in the county.

It comes after results from people being tested both through Pillar 1 (in hospitals) and Pillar 2 (through drive-through test centres and swabs sent by post) were included in the Public Health England data since the start of this week.

Until earlier this week, only Pillar 1 figures have been published at a local level.

Broken down into each region of Nottinghamshire, the figures also now show a sharp rise in the number of positive cases for each area:

Gedling - 371 (226 on June 30)

Rushcliffe - 375 (201 on June 30)

Mansfield - 342 (139 on June 30)

Newark and Sherwood - 310 (173 on June 30)

Ashfield - 560 (247 on June 30)

Broxtowe - 420 (243 on June 30)

Bassetlaw - 549 (261 on June 30)
