Data shows Love Island's Amber Gill is officially the most popular contestant this year

She had a bit of a rocky start in week one but Amber Gill has won over Love Island viewers enough since then to now be officially the most popular contestant this year.

The Gateshead beauty therapist saw her social media channels hit with some shocking abuse in the first few days of the new series but the tide quickly turned and, following on from how well she dealt with all of the Michael and Joanna drama, the 21 year old is the big favourite with viewers.

Just as , Twitter data, compiled by global online gaming company BetVictor, has revealed that Amber is not only the most popular Love Island contestant of 2019 (based on positive sentiment mentions) but the social media algorithm (which so far has predicted the bottom three couples for the past 2 weeks) has her and partner Greg O’Shea as the favourites to win.

The top 5 contestants based on the volume of positive tweets are: 1. Amber - 389,165; 2. Ovie - 241,17; 3.Tommy - 218,443; 4. Maura - 216,927; 5. Yewande  - 199,504.

Michael’s treatment of Amber went down badly with viewers and it’s landed him the title of being the most disliked boy in the Villa to date: 37% of all tweets about Michael were recorded as being negative.

His former flame Joanna fares no better, landing the title of being the most disliked girl in the villa to date (despite having left), with a negative tweet sentiment of 38%.

Based on the data collected by BetVictor, Greg and Amber are the most likely to win with a score of 60.325/100.

Longstanding couple Tommy and Molly-Mae are the third most likely to win, being downgraded from a likelihood of winning of 51.25/100 last week, to just 39.42/100 this week.

Jordan and Anna, and Anton and Belle stand next to no chance of winning, with scores of just 32.015/100 and 34.005/100 respectively.
