Data Lab director named as new chief executive of Scottish Business Resilience Centre

The Scottish Business Resilience Centre (SBRC) has tapped into the nation’s burgeoning data sector to find its next chief executive.

Jude McCorry – who is currently business development director at The Data Lab, Scotland’s innovation centre for data and artificial intelligence (AI) – will take over from Eamonn Keane, who has been the SBRC’s acting head since Mandy Haeburn-Little left last autumn.

The SBRC is a partnership between businesses, the Scottish Government, the police, the fire service and academics to tackle cyber-crime.

McCorry has worked alongside the SBRC during her current post at The Data Lab and previously set up Edinburgh Napier University’s commercialisation arm, The Edinburgh Institute. Her career has also included spells with Dell, Firefly Communications and Xnet Data Storage.

Paddy Tomkins, chair of the SBRC, which is based at Oracle’s campus in Linlithgow, said: “The board is confident that SBRC will flourish under Jude’s energetic and ambitious leadership. Widely recognised as an innovator, she will ensure that SBRC is at the forefront of supporting growth, prosperity and collaboration for Scottish businesses and communities.”

McCorry said: “Building on the excellent work of The Data Lab, SBRC and others, Scotland is well on the way to becoming a global leader in data science. I hope with future collaborations, Scotland has the opportunity to become a world leader in cyber and resilience.”

Gillian Docherty, chief executive at The Data Lab, added: “Jude’s contribution during her time with The Data Lab has been outstanding and we are extremely grateful for her passion and enthusiasm over the past four years to help drive Scotland’s data economy.

"We are delighted for Jude and SBRC in this appointment and we know she will continue to deliver for Scotland’s economy and society in this new role.”
