Exciting novice chaser Dashel Drasher will miss the rest of the season.
Trainer Jeremy Scott has called it a day with the seven-year-old, who finished second to RSA Chase favourite Champ on debut over fences in the autumn.
An impressive winner at Haydock on December 4, the son of Passing Glance was then found to have a small injury, which Scott's team hoped would not curtail his campaign.
However, the vet has advised them to ease off for now.
"Unfortunately he's out for the season," said Scott.
"He has picked up a niggling injury to the lower end of his tendon.
"The vet reckons he will be able to race next autumn.
"It messes us up a bit as we won't be able to go in novice races anymore.
"We would have probably run at one of the recent Cheltenham meetings had he been OK, then made a decision which way to go."
Dashel Dasher's Newbury conqueror Champ, the horse he unseated his rider behind at the same venue a few weeks later, heads to Kelso for his Cheltenham warm-up on February 13.
He will try and get a win on the board after his fall at Prestbury Park on New Year's Day.
"Champ will go to Kelso as it is a quieter place for him to go and I just feel we need to go left-handed and I don't dare go right-handed at Ascot," Nicky Henderson said yesterday.
"He had a period after the race in the stables afterwards when he was quite lame and they X-rayed his shoulder in the stables after, but there is nothing there now.
"He had a fair fall, but otherwise he has done everything right. It has not knocked his confidence and he has schooled beautifully since."
Champ is 7/2 favourite for the RSA Chase on March 11.
