Dashcam shows shocking moment car is driven at speed on pavement outside secondary school

Dashcam footage has captured the shocking moment a car was driven at speed on a pavement outside a Swansea school just before pupils arrived for the start of the day.

A parent filmed the incident, which shows a car using the pavement to overtake another vehicle turning into the Penyrheol Comprehensive School driveway.

The incident happened at around 8.35am, just before the 8.40am school start.

As the car rejoins the road it has to brake sharply to avoid a vehicle safely turning right onto the carriageway from the Penyrheol entrance. A few seconds earlier and the two would possibly have collided as the driver of the car on the pavement would probably not have seen it.

The parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said she nearly dropped off her 14-year-old son, a pupil at the school, on the pavement moments before the car sped along it.

She said: "My son wanted to get out of the car where I was to save me going into the school car park.

"I said no as it was safer for me to drop him into the car park as I’d rather wait a few extra minutes than him be knocked over.

"Fortunately he listened or he would have been knocked over."

She said she often saw lots of children crossing the road from the skate park on the left to get to Penyrheol, when she was doing the school run.

She added: "I’m just glad no-one was hurt and my son listened to me and stayed in the car.

"I was just shocked and annoyed to be honest. No matter what the emergency, there’s no need to put anyone’s lives at risk like this."

South Wales Police have said they are looking into the incident.
