Dashcam footage shows moment van with trailer runs a red light in Drogheda, Co Louth

A motorist had a lucky escape when he was forced to slam on the brakes to avoid a collision when a van driver drove straight through a red light.

The driver of a Ford Mondeo was given the green light and was about to pull out when the van towing a low trailer broke the red light almost causing an accident.

The incident took place at the junctions of the South Quay and the Bullring in Drogheda just before 10am on Tuesday.

The van driver knowing he has broken the law waves as he continues on through the red light.

The junction where the incident took place is notorious for near misses as many drivers simply ignore red lights.

The driver of the Mondeo said: “Only I half-expected someone to break the lights there would have been an accident.

“A lot of drivers coming up from the South Quay who know the junction don’t pull out when they get green because they know there’s a good chance to someone is going to ignore the red light and come flying through.

“Where there are guards all over the place with speed cameras there’s never one to be found at the Bullring where the law is flouted ever couple of minutes.
