Dashcam footage shows moment dangerous driver tipped lorry on its side

This shocking dashcam footage shows the moment a careless driver travelled round a roundabout - and tipped his entire lorry on to its side.

Petru-ionut Lungu, 33, was driving his large vehicle recklessly on June 7 last year, when he lost control of the lorry and it toppled over on a roundabout - on a bridge over a dual carriageway.

Two cars travelling near the lorry captured the shocking moment on dashcam - one from behind, and one from the carriageway just underneath where the lorry collapsed.

The driver travelling under the bridge at that moment was hit by a large piece of debris that flew off the large vehicle.

Lungu, of Trimley St Martin, near Felixstowe, Suffolk, pleaded guilty to careless driving at Ipswich Magistrates' Court on February 28.

And yesterday (Mon), he was given nine points on his licence - giving him a total of 15 points, and resulting in a six-month driving ban.

He was also fined £562, ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £56.

The incident occurred at the Copdock roundabout in Ipswich, Suffolk, at junction 55.

It caused considerable disruption for Friday rush hour traffic - including drivers heading to a nearby Rod Stewart concert that evening.

Sgt Peter Partridge from the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads and Armed Policing Team said: "We are delighted with this result; careless driving has serious consequences and will not be tolerated.

"Suffolk Police will continue to pursue and prosecute those who drive carelessly and endanger the lives of other road users."
