Dash cam footage captures moment house explodes after car crashes into gas metre

()

This was the moment a house in Michigan suddenly exploded, sending the walls crumbling and resulting in a large fire, after a car crashed into the building, hitting the home's gas metre.

Firefighter William Pawluk, who works for the Lansing Fire Department in the state's capital, uploaded video of the explosion, which was filmed by a dash cam from his vehicle.

The incident occurred on August 2 after a hit-and-run crash that saw a car struck from behind, sending it ploughing into the house, hitting the gas metre.

A couple and their baby were evacuated from the house before the explosion took place. The house was subsequently destroyed and the family is now staying elsewhere, fire officials said.

The car which crashed was hit by a gold-coloured SUV, with the driver fleeing the scene and facing charges of hit and run ad causing damage to a structure.

Three more homes on the street were damaged as a result of the explosion, Lansing firefighter Charles Stadt said.
