Dash cam captures shocking moment driver swerves into puddle to soak pedestrian

It's the footage every person walking along the street after a rain storm will relate to.

Dash cam video has captured the shocking moment a driver appears to deliberately splash a pedestrian with dirty water.

Footage shows a silver Audi driving into a huge puddle and drenching a woman on Tythe Barn Road in Stafford.

The soaked victim then turns around as the car continues up the road.

The video, which was shared on the Facebook group Staffordshire Tactical Information Group and reported on by Stoke-on-Trent Live , has been passed on to Staffordshire Police.

The person driving behind, who anonymously shared the footage, stopped to check on the lady who was ‘very shaken’.

The driver said: “There’s no way I could have just drove on, the poor woman was so shocked bless her.

“The police confirmed it is a criminal offence and it has been passed on to officers to deal with.”

Appalled Facebook users were shocked by the footage, with one saying: “Absolutely no need at all… do not understand at all what someone can get out of doing something like that.”

Another wrote: “No thought for people at all. Don’t do to people what you wouldn’t want to yourself. This makes me so angry.”

This is the law on drivers splashing pedestrians

Under section three of the Road Traffic Act 1988, it is illegal to splash someone as it amounts to driving ‘without reasonable consideration for other persons’.

Those found guilty of deliberately splashing pedestrians will likely be hit with a £100 fine and three penalty points, though drivers can face fines of up to £5,000.
