Daryl Murphy hails Waterford's 'impressive' appointment of Kevin Sheedy as new boss

Daryl Murphy feels Waterford’s capture of new boss Kevin Sheedy is an ‘impressive’ piece of business.

And it was a factor in why the former Ireland striker has today penned a new deal with the Blues for next season.

Everton and Ireland legend Sheedy was a surprise announcement last week as manager.

Murphy said today: “I’m delighted to be back for 2021. It’s a hugely exciting time with the appointments of Kevin Sheedy and Mike Newell.

“The club is making major strides forward this year. We went so close last year and it’s easy to be deflated but the way the club is working now this off-season is impressive.

“The new manager and his assistant are already looking at players both here in Ireland and across the water.”

Ex-Ipswich, Sunderland and Celtic striker Murphy joined his hometown in August, initially on a short-term deal under then boss John Sheridan.

But he is on board for all of 2021 and said: “I think the fans will really get behind us when they see how prepared we are for February.”

Murphy, 37, joins goalkeeper Brian Murphy in re-signing. Murphy agreed a deal last week amid interest from St Pat's and Dundalk.
