Daryl Morey playfully offers Ray Allen a 10-day contract on Twitter

To no one’s surprise, retired NBA veteran and three-point expert Ray Allen lit up the 2019 All-Star Celebrity Game with a flurry of easy triples on Friday. The effortless performance was reminiscent of the 43-year-old’s not too distant playing days.

His hot shooting in the event reignited nostalgia from fans and media personalities alike, some of whom noted his seemingly ageless play on social media. Among them was Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey.

The Rockets have three open roster spots and could theoretically offer Allen a 10-day contract, but the remark was most likely a respectful nod to Allen’s abilities while winking at his advanced years. Allen is older than any currently active NBA player and has not played since 2014.

During his 18-season professional tenure, Allen was selected to 10 All-Star teams. His appearance in the Celebrity Game was a departure and a fun reminder that he experienced only minimal decline in later years, evolving to keep pace with the league.
