Daryl Morey on Game 6 vs. Spurs from 2017: ‘No one could process it’

It’s been two years since James Harden inexplicably finished with 10 points on 2-of-11 shooting with six turnovers before fouling out against the Spurs in Game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals from 2017. However, it continues to be a subject that confounds people until this day.

Rockets GM Daryl Morey described the experience as ‘strange’ to Zach Lowe of ESPN in a recent column:

It was like when you were a kid and you saw your parents fighting, no one would ever want to bring it up. No one could process it.

Harden’s had several great games in the playoffs, but this game sticks out as one where he just looked lost. Even Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich approached Morey looking bewildered.

Popovich reportedly said to Morey: “I don’t know what happened.”

It’ll be several years before people can look past this performance and it is imperative that Harden finish this postseason strong to shake his playoff reputation.
