Daryl Horgan wanted lights out the last time Hibs were at Rugby Park

Daryl Horgan admitted he wanted the lights to go off permanently the last time Hibs were at Rugby Park, but now things are looking much brighter under Paul Heckingbottom.

Hibs went to Ayrshire at the beginning of December under Neil Lennon and were turned over by Steve Clarke’s side.

The hosts were made to sweat though, when the stadium was twice plunged in to darkness with the score at 2-0 with little time remaining after the floodlights failed.

A third occasion would likely have seen the game abandoned, but on it went and Hibs conceded again before full-time.

They have nothing to play for but pride this time around, with Killie trying to secure third place ahead of Aberdeen.

"That was a bad one, we were beaten 3-0 and we were beaten comprehensively as well," Horgan admitted.

“But to be fair there were a few bad games during that run! A few disappointing ones. That was right up there.

“You’re 2-0 down and it gets to stage where you’re nearly hoping and wondering if the game might be called off.

“At the time we were actually building up a little momentum and getting into the game and it looked like we might get something.

“Then the lights went off, that momentum goes. And when the game starts again you’re trying to build up more momentum and then we get cut again.

“So it wasn’t ideal. We didn’t deserve anything from the game but that didn’t help.

“You’re 2-0 down with ten minutes to go, would you take a replay? Yeah!

While Hibs had Killie in their sights until last weekend, Horgan admitted they’re not holding them up as a benchmark or an example.

“We don’t really have to look at them and say: ‘They’ve done brilliantly, we need to do that’, he explained.

“We need to do it our own way and try to get to the level we need to get to the way we play.

“Kilmarnock have had a fantastic season, Steve Clarke rightly got Manager of the Year. With the resources they have it’s not easy.

“But he’s brought in a very good team, they play a good style of football and a hard style of football to play against as well.

“They are rightly up there, the league table doesn’t lie, they have been very, very good.”
