Daryl Hogan has been offered no guarantees of an imminent Ireland recall.
The former League of Ireland star and current Hibs winger hasn't featured under Mick McCarthy.
He was named in the provisional squad for the March games against Gibraltar and Georgia.
But the Galway man - who starred here for Dundalk - did not make the squad proper once it was cut.
And Horgan wasn't involved in the recent clashes with Denmark and Gibraltar, or the training camp in Portugal.
Quizzed on Horgan, McCarthy said: "It's because I've picked other players. It's just my personal choice.
"Dave Bowman has watched him on a number of occasions and he's got to keep doing it.
"And if he gets a chance, he has to grab it."
Horgan made his Ireland debut under Martin O'Neill against Iceland in 2017.
And he won the last of his six caps in a friendly draw away to Poland in September last year.
