Darwin Nunez starts as Jurgen Klopp unleashes new Liverpool formation for Rangers

Darwin Nunez starts up top for Liverpool against Rangers as Jurgen Klopp welcomes back Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz to the team.

All three players were used from the bench during Saturday's frustrating 3-3 draw with Brighton but the big-money attacking trio all start alongside Mohamed Salah as Klopp tweaks to a 4-2-3-1 system against the Scottish Premiership side.

It means Fabinho drops out as Klopp names captain Jordan Henderson alongside Thiago Alcantara in a two-man midfield in front of an unchanged back five from the weekend.

Jota is expected to be operating behind Nunez who makes his first Champions League start for the Reds as Roberto Firmino drops to the substitutes' bench in the first-ever competitive meeting with Rangers.

Ibrahima Konate returns to the Liverpool squad for the first time this season while summer signing Calvin Ramsay is also included for the first time after recently returning to training.

Explaining the change in formation, Klopp said: "We just thought we have to change a little bit and that’s what we did. Formation-wise, let’s see how it works out.

"There’s never a perfect time or a wrong time, we have to change anyway. We have played so many games we can’t just push the boys through, we will use all the boys, I know it’s easy when you’re winning all the time but we have to do that as well in this moment and why we decided like this. "

Liverpool : Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Thiago, Henderson; Salah, Jota, Diaz; Nunez.

Subs : Kelleher, Adrian, Konate, Firmino, Gomez, Fabinho, Milner, Elliott, Carvalho, Ramsay Bajcetic, Phillips.
