Darwin Nunez silences doubters as Liverpool connection leads to Uruguay goal

Darwin Nunez has handed Liverpool a timely boost with a goal for Uruguay in their international friendly match against Canada.

The Liverpool striker has struggled for confidence of late after a tough start to life in the Premier League, but this goal for Uruguay will give Nunez a boost heading into Saturday's match with Brighton.

Nunez scored for Liverpool when coming off the bench at Fulham on his Premier League debut, but was sent off in the next game and missed the next three matches.

Liverpool paid Benfica an initial £64 million for Nunez, but that fee could rise to a club record £85m if all add-ons are met - meaning the transfer would be a success.

Nunez has been subject to ridicule from rivals fans who are urging the 23-year-old to fail at Liverpool, but a Luis Suarez assist gave him the chance to head beyond Milan Borjan in the Canada goal to send Uruguay into a 2-0 lead.

The striker is leading the line with former Liverpool star Suarez as Uruguay gear up for the World Cup in November and Nunez will now return to Merseyside full of confidence ready for a busy October.
