Darwin Nunez and two others return but Thiago remains missing from Liverpool training

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost ahead of their Champions League trip to Ajax after Darwin Nunez took part in open training on Tuesday.

But there was no sign of Thiago in the outdoor session at Liverpool's Kirkby training base as the Spanish midfielder continues to recover from a severe ear infection.

The pair missed the Reds’ loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, with the Uruguayan tweaking his hamstring in last week’s 1-0 victory over West Ham United. Nunez is now in contention for the trip to Amsterdam.

Ibrahima Konate and Naby Keita also took part in full team training as their own comebacks from injury continue. The Frenchman has missed Liverpool ’s last three matches with a muscle injury, while the Guinean hasn’t featured since the Community Shield because of illness and a thigh injury.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed earlier this month that Konate should be available for selection again following his return to training after only a short-term lay-off. However, the Reds are expected to tread more carefully with Keita, who is ineligible for Champions League group-matches anyway after not being named in their squad for the first half of the season.

Joel Matip was missing from Liverpool’s latest session, with Klopp admitting last week he is unlikely to return until just before the World Cup. Meanwhile, Luiz Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arthur Melo are all long-term absentees and have already been ruled out until 2023.
