Darvel boss hoping to deliver special day to remember for club's fans

Michael Kennedy is hoping to give Darvel fans a day to remember this weekend.

It could be a special afternoon 'Doon the Brae', with three points against Kilwinning sealing the Irvine Valley side's Premiership title with a game to spare.

Should 'Vale win the West of Scotland Premiership, they'll be gearing up for a play-off with the East and South of Scotland League winners at the end of May for a spot in the Lowland League.

And with a bumper crowd expect on Saturday, it's sure to be a special occasion if they get the job done.

'Vale boss Kennedy told Doon the Brae TV: "We have got the club into a fantastic position, everything we do here is for the fans and the community, I have said that since day one.

"Hopefully we can drum them up and get a get a good support on Saturday, it makes a massive difference.

"I don't think anyone doubts the task facing us on Saturday, it will be a really tough game.

"In reality it's two cup finals we are facing, between this and Irvine Meadow next week, it will be a really difficult game against Kilwinning.

"In my time here I haven't had an easy game against Kilwinning, they have a new manager too.

"I know there has been a bit of change there, but it will never be easy.

Darvel's lead at the top extended to four points last night thanks to a 6-1 win away to Blantyre combined with Auchinleck losing at home to Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

It was a comfortable win in Lanarkshire for the East Ayrshire side, leaving Kennedy satisfied heading into Saturday.

He said: "It was a pleasing performance in a midweek game on a difficult surface.

"We scored some really good goals, it was a strong, professional performance.

"We were very comfortable in the game, we probably could have had a couple more."

With a number of key players out, Kennedy is facing selection headaches heading into a crucial run of fixtures.

He said: "Injuries and players out has just been the story of our season to be honest!

"We have big players out, but we are where we are, we just need to utilise the squad.

"They have been resilient all season, and to be fair we are in a better position squad-wise than we were back in October.

"We have two league games left so we just need to get on with it, hopefully we can get some positive performances in the last two matches."
