Darts player Gerwyn Price gets booed in first match since controversial win against Gary Anderson

Former Welsh rugby star Gerwyn Price was jeered by the crowd on his first match since his controversial Grand Slam of Darts triumph over Gary Anderson.

Price - who played rugby union for Neath, Cross Keys and Glasgow Warriors before becoming a professional darts player - landed his maiden PDC title with a 16-13 win against two-time world champion Anderson in Wolverhampton on Sunday.

But the controversial match was referred to an investigation, with Price and Anderson clashing on numerous occasions during what was a feisty encounter.

They even made physical contact at one stage, with Anderson shoving Price on the oche following an exuberant celebration from the Welshman.

During this evening's PDC Players Championship Finals, Price was greeted with a chorus of boos.

People quickly took to Twitter to react to the jeers.

The frosty reception initially seemed to bring out the best in the Welshman who raced into a 5-1 lead.

But Ratajski won five consecutive legs to seal a dramatic 6-5 win over Price who - along with Anderson - is still awaiting the outcome of the investigation into their Grand Slam of Darts final.

Officials are set to review footage from the final in Wolverhampton on Sunday as well as speaking with the public in order to determine whether either player breached any rules during the course of the feisty encounter.

And during the walk-on for his clash with Krzysztof Ratajski at the Players Championship Finals in Minehead, Price was booed by the majority of the crowd following his controversial success five days earlier.

A statement read : "The PDC can confirm that it has referred Sunday's Grand Slam of Darts Final to the Darts Regulation Authority for investigation.

"The DRA is the independent governing body of professional darts and is responsible for all player disciplinary matters relating to PDC events.

"The DRA will review match footage and statements from tournament officials. All public feedback received on the match has also been passed to them.

"The DRA Chairman will decide as to whether there is a case for either player to answer for a breach or breaches of the DRA Rules.

"Neither the PDC nor the DRA will be making any further comment regarding this match whilst it is subject to the DRA Disciplinary process."

Price banked £110,000 as a result of his win against Anderson while he also rose to a career high of sixth in the world rankings.
