Darts ace Andy 'The Viking' Fordham dies at the age of 59

Former world darts champion Andy "The Viking" Fordham has died at the age of 59.

Fans favourite Fordham won the 2004 BDO World Darts Championship and the 1999 Winmau World Masters.

The Bristol-born darts legend passed away with his wife, Jenny, by his side, on July 15, inspiring tributes and memorials up and down the country.

While he is best known for his ability with the arrows, he reached a new audience with his 2004 appearance on Celebrity Fit Club.

The British Darts Organisation (BDO) said in a statement: "(We) are deeply saddened to hear of the loss of the darts legend Andy (The Viking) Fordham, a true gentleman of the game who will deeply missed by all. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family at this time."

Former publican Fordham faced health problems during his life and reportedly once weighed 31 stone, revealing that he would drink 25 bottles of lager a day.
