Darren Young and Paul Sheerin on Ayr United radar as Honest Men close in on new boss

East Fife boss Darren Young is among the contenders to become the new Ayr United boss.

The 41-year-old is on the Somerset Park shortlist after catching the eye of Honest Men chairman Lachlan Cameron.

He joins interim gaffer Sandy Stewart, former Premiership bosses Martin Canning and Jim McIntyre and ex-Ayr midfielder and current Aberdeen coach Paul Sheerin in the race to succeed Ian McCall.

Young moved to East Fife after he was ruthlessly axed by Albion Rovers despite becoming the Coatbridge club’s most successful boss when he led them to the League Two title.

The former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder has carried on that impressive work at Bayview where they currently sit second.

And Young is now in with a chance of stepping up to the Championship where he would succeed McCall at Ayr United after he left for Partick Thistle.
