Horror author Darren Shan is to write a 12-book zombie series, Zom-B, which will be published in serial form with a new book every three months, starting in autumn 2012.

Shan is known for his gory multi-book tales which have sold over 25m copies worldwide. The Saga of Darren Shan, set in a world of vampires at war, ran to 12 novels, and was followed by his 10-part demon series, The Demonata. In his most recent series, Saga of Larten Crepsley, Shan returned to one of the vampire stars of his breakthrough hit Cirque du Freak, which began The Saga of Darren Shan, and follows a vampire over the course of 200 years.

According to his publisher, Ingrid Selberg of Simon and Schuster, the new series from the vampire author who has declared "I hate Twilight" will be characteristically "challenging material".

"The Zom-B series combines classic Shan action and a fiendishly twisting plot with hard-hitting and thought-provoking moral questions," said Selberg.
