Darren Randolph says he hasn't retired from international football after being left out of Stephen Kenny's squad

Darren Randolph says rumours of his retirement from international football are wide of the mark.

The West Ham keeper posted a note on social media on Friday in which he said he was fit and training — and that it was Stephen Kenny’s call to exclude him from the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Kenny has opted for Gavin Bazunu, Caoimhin Kelleher and Mark Travers as his three net-minders for the Portugal, Azerbaijan and Serbia games.

When pressed on the experienced Hammers man, the Ireland boss explained that Covid sidelined Randolph for the first few weeks of pre-season.

He added: “He is back training and ideally I think Darren wants first-team football — I think that would be great for him, you know? Just to go and play.”

Randolph posted: “A lot of ppl(sic) asking if I’ve retired from international football. I haven’t. I’m fit and training, I just wasn’t selected.

“Long time before I choose to retire.”
