Darren Randolph is an injury doubt for Ireland’s decisive Euro 2020 qualifier against Denmark next month.
The goalkeeper has a thigh strain and missed Middlesbrough’s 0-0 Championship draw at Huddersfield last night.
Boro boss Jonathan Woodgate said: “Darren's got a thigh strain and I'm not sure how long he'll be out for.
“He might not make the Ireland game, he might not make next week, I don't know how long he will be. We'll have to go through the scans in more detail.
“He was sore coming back from international duty. He played against West Brom and he was sore with it so he's had it for a while.”
Randolph was Ireland’s man-of-the-match in last week’s 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in Geneva and saved a late penalty.
Ireland will secure automatic qualification to the Euros if they beat old foes Denmark at Aviva Stadium in three-and-a-half weeks.
Bournemouth’s Mark Travers has been back-up to Randolph of late and the Maynooth man, 20, would be the front runner to start if Randolph is ruled out.
Ireland assistant Robbie Keane is also Woodgate’s right hand man at Boro and will brief Mick McCarthy today on the extent of Randolph’s injury.
