Darren Murray reveals the secret behind his Premiership renaissance with Glentoran

Darren Murray has revealed the secret behind his Premiership renaissance with Glentoran .

Since joining the Glens back in December, Murray went on to score 13 goals in 17 games as the club narrowly missed out on Europa League qualification.

That impressive form has earned the 27-year-old striker a new contract at The Oval, with Glentoran confirming an agreed deal earlier this week.

Mick McDermott's side will meet up for pre-season on June 17, and Murray admits he can't wait to get started again.

When asked what the secret behind his goalscoring success was last season, Murray joked: "Maybe I am growing up - becoming more mature.

"My missus was actually asking me the other day, 'why didn't you play like this the past two or three years?'

"I am at an age now where I need to make every moment count. I might just have three or four years left playing football.

"This is my living, and I don't know what I would do if I didn't play football.

"So I need to put my head down and work hard, and I also want to win silverware.

"I am also enjoying my football, and I was playing with a team who I knew well. I probably know about 99.9 per cent of the Glens squad, and that helps you settle in.

"Things haven't worked out for me at some of the clubs I have been at, but hopefully now things are starting to click.

"There are some exciting plans at Glentoran, what with the takeover news and all that. We also have Mick McDermott in charge and hopefully we will see a few new faces arrive over the summer."

Murray joined Glentoran in December last year after he was snapped up by then manager Ronnie McFall.

He then worked under Gary Smyth before the arrival of McDermott in March.

Despite the managerial upheaval, the experienced striker insists he had no doubts accepting a new deal from the Glens.

"There has been a lot of change, but I have enjoyed it here," he added.

"A couple of other clubs spoke to me about a deal, but I am happy here and I was happy to agree a new contract with Glentoran.

"I can't wait to get back with the boys on June 17 and enjoy the banter again. It is a great squad of lads and we all want to do well for the club."
