Darren McGregor back in full training for Hibs and taking part in Movember

Hibs have received a much needed boost with the news that Darren McGregor has returned to full training following an abdominal injury.

The centre back last played in the 5-3 extra-time win over Greenock Morton in the Betfred Cup back in August.

McGregor was forced off early in that game but is now back amongst the Hibs squad as he targets a return to action

“It’s been a frustrating few months,” he said. “But I have to thank the staff at HTC for all their hard work to help me get back to this point.

“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love playing football – particularly for Hibernian – and I can’t wait to be back out there to help the boys.”

McGregor was also sporting a new look, getting rid of his dark beard as he prepares to raise money this month during Movember, inspired by en ex-employer.

He famously worked at clothing store Xile in Edinburgh’s Princes Mall while playing part-time with Cowdenbeath.

The 34-year-old remains grateful to Xile founder, Pat O’Flaherty, for giving him a chance.

After he passed away last year, McGregor is now raising funds in his memory.

“Pat meant so much to me and a lot of other people.

“He was a massive Hibernian supporter. He was a regular at games and club functions, as well as sponsoring the youth teams.

“He’s greatly missed.”

Saturday’s vital trip to St Johnstone will likely come too soon for McGregor. Ryan Porteous returns from suspension though, having sat out last Saturday’s 5-2 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic.

Martin Boyle could be in line for more minutes, if not a start, having come off the bench late on in Hibs’ last two matches.
