Darren Fletcher urges Anthony Martial to emulate Marcus Rashford at Manchester United

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has urged Anthony Martial to be more consistent and to emulate the displays of Marcus Rashford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are without the England international through injury, which has increased the pressure on Martial to get the goals.

He has hit eight goals in the Premier League this season but has stuck just once in the league since the turn of the year, leading to Fletcher demanding more from him.

“There’s probably more pressure on him because he’s a talented player but people are still expecting more from him. He’s a great talent,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s getting to that age where he is not young anymore, we need to start seeing the finished article. The talent is there, the ability is there, I do think he suits being a number nine, I think he prefers being an out-and-out striker.

“We do need to see a little bit more from him getting involved in the game, he holds the ball up well, he’s strong, he can make things happen. I think we’ve seen it in spells but we want to see him do what Rashford was doing, doing it consistently.

“He’s got to take the responsibility with the young players around him and the fact that Rashford is unavailable, he’s out injured.”
