Darren Fletcher sends message to Manchester United board over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and transfers

Darren Fletcher has urged Manchester United's board to listen to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the transfer market as the window nears its close, but warned against panic buying amid growing unrest among supporters.

United remain active in the transfer market but have faced criticism this summer for a lack of movement, with Donny van de Beek their only signing thus far and less than two weeks until the window closes.

Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho remains United's top target but the Bundesliga side are adamant that he will not leave this summer. The reality is Dortmund would sell Sancho if United met their valuation but the Reds have no intention of paying €120million for the 20-year-old.

However, rather than targeting an alternative or settling for other potential targets, Fletcher believes waiting for the right man, and trusting in Solskjaer, is crucial.

“For me, trust Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. As long as the board is listening to him, the job he’s done has been fantastic, the recruitment has been great," he told Sky Sports.

" For me, I would rather wait a little bit longer and get the right target than go for someone mediocre in the meantime, the squad is good enough. The biggest thing is trusting Solskjaer.”

The MEN revealed on Monday United stepped up their plans to strengthen their defence in the wake of Saturday's loss to Crystal Palace.

United accept the need for a new left-back has become more pressing and are receptive to recruiting a centre half before  deadline day  on October 5. A source close to United's market activity said there has been a 'shift' in their movement over the weekend as United's preference had been to make defensive signings next summer.
