Darren Fletcher praises Manchester United for Bruno Fernandes deal

Manchester United deserve credit for sticking to their recruitment strategy after securing long-term transfer target Bruno Fernandes.

That’s according to former United midfielder Darren Fletcher, who played over 200 Premier League games for the club after progressing through the Youth ranks.

After weeks of negotiation with Sporting Lisbon, an agreement for a deal to bring Fernandes to Old Trafford was confirmed this afternoon.

The rubber stamp on that piece of January transfer window business is now subject to personal terms being agreed and a medical.

Fletcher, who also represented West Brom and Stoke City during his playing career, told Sky Sports: “They’ve looked a little bit bare and that’s why people were clamouring for an act in the January transfer window that is very, very difficult.

“But they got a long-term target in Bruno Fernandes and you’ve got to compliment them on the fact that they’ve not panicked and they are sticking to the strategy that they have got in place.”

Ahead of his move to Old Trafford, Fernandes enjoyed yet another strong start to the Primeira Liga season with Sporting.

Indeed, the 25-year-old midfielder has scored eight goals in 17 appearances so far in 2019/2020, adding to his totals of 20 and 11 in 2018/2019 and 2017/2018 respectively.
