Darren Fletcher makes Manchester United Champions League transfer admission

Darren Fletcher believes Manchester United must finish in the top four this season as it is ‘everything’ to the club.

Man United were struggling under Jose Mourinho earlier in the season and were someway out of the top four picture when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as caretaker boss in mid-December.

The Norwegian has subsequently produced a strong vein of form since the start of the New Year that has allowed United to fight for a Champions League spot once again.

A trip to Wolves on Tuesday night represented a difficult proposition for Solskjaer , partly because as Fletcher explained the club’s participation in the Champions League influenced ‘everything’ at the club this summer.

“It’s massive,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s massive for everything to do with the club. It’s massive to do with recruitment in the summer, it’s massive to attract new players and things like that.

"The players want to be playing in the Champions League. That’s where the club belongs.

"Everything about Manchester United, they need to get back to winning the league.

"They need to get away from this ‘we need to get into the Champions League’. It’s not the mindset for Manchester United, but for this season it is very important.”
