Darren Fletcher in furious verbal altercation with Man Utd fan - "who the f*** are you?"

Darren Fletcher asked a Manchester United fan "who the f*** are you?" as tensions spilled over during Saturday evening's Premier League clash against Leicester.

The incident came seconds after Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Foxes the lead in the 63rd minute by nodding in James Maddison's cross. The goal worsened the mood of the Old Trafford faithful who were already subdued in the midst of their side's troubled season.

Although Fred rescued a point by equalising three minutes later, the draw did little to help United's hopes of securing Champions League football and they slumped to seventh in the table by the end of the weekend's fixtures. One fan sat just behind the Red Devils dugout did not shy away from making his feelings clear following Iheanacho's goal and became embroiled in a verbal spat with Fletcher.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Jamie Caplan was furious about the lack of a reaction to falling behind among United's players and told the bench that in no uncertain terms. The lifelong supporter, who first visited Old Trafford aged six, insists he was not aiming a dig at Fletcher in particular but the technical director took issue and retorted by declaring "who the f*** are you".

The heated exchange escalated before Jamie was asked to return to his seat by stewards. However, the 25-year-old Mancunian had no interest in watching the rest of the second half and made for the exit.

To his surprise, Old Trafford staff prevented him from leaving as they intended to call Greater Manchester Police over the incident. At this point, Jamie and the stewards could hear the cheers of United fans as Fred turned in the equaliser.

He was allowed to leave 10 minutes later having been applauded by some other supporters for his show of defiance about the current situation at United. Jamie was attending his 12th home game of the season and admits he was underwhelmed by the atmosphere in the South Stand as he found himself singing alone during the first half.

He previously held a season ticket which he gave up during the coronavirus pandemic and still intends to return to Old Trafford. However, he may need to draw a line under the incident with members of the club's staff in order to avoid a stadium ban.

Nonetheless, Jamie has no regrets over his altercation with Fletcher, which was the product of built-up frustrations over a perceived lack of effort and the cost of attending fixtures. He concluded: "I still don't think I was in the wrong and I'd do it again."
