Darren Fletcher identifies the key to Marcus Rashford's stunning free-kick vs Chelsea

Former Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher has identified the key behind Marcus Rashford's stunning free-kick that sent them into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The England international sealed a 2-1 victory for United, having scored a penalty in the first half, by smashing a sensational long-range free-kick into the top corner past Chelsea stopper Willy Caballero.

That result saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side secure their third away victory in the space of a week, building upon the results against Partizan and Norwich City, providing some much-needed momentum.

Rashford 's superb free-kick was certainly a spectacular way to seal another victory for United - but Fletcher has warned fans that technique is more difficult to do in the Premier League.

"I experienced the Mitre ball last season in the Championship and, without a doubt, it moves much more than the Nike Premier League ball and Marcus alluded to it as well," he told Sky Sports.

"The Premier League ball doesn't move as much as that and Rashford said they've been doing it in training, making it move. It almost seemed like he was delighted to get that free-kick opportunity."

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp also praised the United forward for his technique, claiming he made it look easy.

"Roger Federer, all the greats, different sportsman that make it look effortless and as Rashford strikes the ball, it's so easy, it looks like he's just trying to clip the ball into the box but, as it hits the net, it seems like it's going faster.

"You used to have to put the movement on the ball but these days, with the ball and the technique, it's changed so much. Ronaldo used to do it, remember the goal he scored against Portsmouth?"
